Bread Pudding

Bread Pudding Recipe

Bread and Pudding – Yes, this is a pudding that is made out of stale bread and various flavorings.

A bread-based delicacy called bread pudding is a global favorite. It is typically made using milk or cream, stale bread, and a type of fat like oil, butter, or suet. Depending on whether the pudding is sweet or savory, additional ingredients may also be included.

Sweet bread puddings can be made with sugar, syrup, honey, dried fruit, nuts, and spices like vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, or mace. The bread is combined with the other ingredients, soaked in the liquids, and then baked.

It’s a dish that combines stale, old bread with a creamy custard made of ingredients like sugar, butter, milk, eggs, cinnamon, and vanilla, then bakes everything together. While the center has a smooth, custard-like texture, the borders may be slightly crunchy.

When paired with a fresh fruit compote, it creates a fantastic breakfast dish. For a significantly more indulgent result, add a few chocolate chips before baking.

For Christmas, Mardi Gras, or any special meal, this New Orleans dessert is a staple.

Storage suggestions

Bread pudding is best served right away after it’s finished baking. However, leftovers can be kept for up to 5 days refrigerated and can be reheated in the microwave.

To reheat, warm individual portions in 1-minute bursts in the microwave until warmed through. The sauce can be drizzled over top and reheated along with the individual slice.

We do not recommend freezing bread pudding.

  • For checking if the bread pudding is baled properly or not insert a clean knife into the center and see if it comes out clean!
  • You can enjoy bread pudding cold or warm, but if you prefer it warm after freezing/thawing, gently warm it to reheat.
