Dry fruits ladoo is delicious, healthy, nutritious, and quick to make energy balls that are sweetened with dates and raisins. dry fruit laddu is usually prepared during festival seasons like Diwali, Navaratri, and Krishna Janmashtami.

You can make this super quick ladoo with dry fruits in 15 minutes. You just need to soak dates and fig 30 minutes beforehand. Packed with nutrients, good fats, and fibre, these energy balls are made with dates, figs, and various nuts.

Without any oil, ghee or butter, or refined sugar, these are energy-dense and rich healthy sweet for toddlers and kids. Also, these are one of the best edible gifts that you can give in pretty packing this festival season.

Including dry fruits and nuts in kids’ diets is very crucial and if they are fussy to eat dry fruits as such, these laddoos are your best bet.

You can totally customize them and add your preferred nuts like cashew nuts, dried fruits, and flavorings. Use this recipe as a base and build your own as per your liking.

Ingredients for dry fruits ladoo

  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • ¼ cup cashews
  • ¼ cup almonds
  • 2 tablespoons raisins
  • ¼ cup pistachios
  • ½ tsp cardamom powder
  • 1 tablespoon desiccated coconut – optional
  • 2 tablespoons ghee, skip ghee if making vegan laddus

Instructions for dry fruits ladoo

Preparation:

  1. Remove the seeds from the dates and mash them using a fork to make a smooth paste.
  2. You can also use seedless dates. If your dates are not super soft, then you can also blend them in a blender to make the paste.
  3. keep aside.
  4. In a pan, add desiccated coconut.
  5. Stir and toast for 1 minute or until the coconut turns slightly golden. Transfer the toasted coconut to a plate in the pan and set it aside to cool completely.
  6. To the same pan, add raisins and roast for a few seconds. Once they swell up, remove them from the pan and transfer them to a separate bowl. Keep it aside.
  7. also finely chop cashews, pistachios, and almonds.

Making ladoos

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons ghee in a pan.
  2. Once hot, add all the dry fruits like cashew nuts, almonds, and pistachios.
  3. Stir continuously and lightly roast them on low heat for 1-2 minutes or until they are fragrant.
  4. Once the nuts are fragrant, remove them in a bowl and set them aside to cool down completely.
  5. Add the toasted coconut and mix well.
  6. now add coarsely blended dates.
  7. continue to fry on medium flame smashing dates with a spatula. this helps dates to separate out and mix uniformly with other dry fruits.
  8. also, add cardamom powder and continue to saute.
  9. furthermore, saute till the dates start releasing oil.
  10. To check the consistency, take a small portion of the mixture and try to roll it with your hands. If it holds the shape, then it is ready. If it is hard to bind, then you can add about 1 tablespoon of ghee to the mixture.
  11. turn off the flame and allow it to cool for a minute or 2.
  12. Add roasted raisins and mix everything well.
  13. Now with the greased hands pinch out about 2 tablespoons of mixture and roll it into a smooth ball.
  14. do not cool completely, then you won’t be able to make ladoos.
  15. finally, serve immediately or store the ladoo in an airtight container.

Serving and Storage Suggestions

You may either serve the dry fruits ladoo right away or preserve it in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

The shelf life of dry fruits ladoos is a few days at room temperature and a few weeks in the fridge. However, I don’t think they’ll last longer because they’re so good and will soon run out.

Make a large quantity and store the energy balls in the fridge for a few weeks or the freezer for a few months.

Tips and variations

  • firstly, adjust the proportion of dry fruits as per your choice.
  • You can include any edible nuts but make sure they are fresh and not rancid or bitter.
  • Omit desiccated coconut if you do not have it. 2 tablespoons of freshly grated coconut can be added instead and they give a good taste too.
  • additionally, increase the proportion of dates if you like them sweeter.
  • also, do not powder the dry fruits as you won’t enjoy the crunchy bites.
  • This energy balls recipe can be doubled or tripled easily to make a big batch for festive occasions.
