Matar Mushroom recipe (Step By Step)

Matar mushroom is a creamy and spicy curry or north Indian gravy recipe prepared mainly with green peas and mushrooms.

Mushrooms and matar are both incredibly flavorful and nutrient-dense ingredients, and when you prepare them with a delicious onion tomato masala, and spice powder, a terrific taste is a guarantee.

Mushroom and paneer go well with most veggies and are often used to make rich curry dishes for vegetarians. In many recipes, you can easily replace mushrooms with paneer and vice versa. This is one such recipe.

the curry gets its flavor and richness from its tomato and onion-based sauce tossed in a cashew paste. it is an ideal side dish to roti/chapati and jeera rice or plain steamed rice.

Ingredients for Matar Mushroom

  • 2 to 3 tablespoons of oil
  • 200 grams of button mushrooms
  • ½ cup peas / matar (fresh / frozen)
  • 3 medium-sized tomatoes
  • 1 medium-sized onion
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 1.5 teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  • ½ teaspoon red chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 2 cups water or as required
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 1-inch cinnamon
  • 1 tsp cumin seed
  • salt as required

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MATAR MUSHROOM

  1. in the same Kadai heat 2 tsp oil and saute 1 bay leaf, 1-inch cinnamon, and1 tsp cumin. saute till the spices turn aromatic.
  2. Using a low flame, sauté 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric, 1 teaspoon of chili powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of coriander powder.
  3. add in prepared onion tomato paste and cook well.
  4. keep stirring till the onion tomato paste thickens and releases oil.
  5. now add in ¼ cup cashew paste and mix well.
  6. add in 1 cup of water and stir well adjusting consistency as required.
  7. Now add mushroom and green peas, mix and cover the pan. Cook everything for about 5 minutes on medium flame, stirring occasionally.
  8. now add 1 tsp Kasuri methi, 2 tbsp coriander leaves, and ¼ tsp garam masala. mix well.

SERVING SUGGESTION

Serve matar mushroom hot with rotis, naan, parathas, or chapatis.

NOTES

  • First, if you want a delicious curry, use small, tender mushrooms.
  • Additionally, dressing mushrooms with salt and pepper enhances the flavor.
  • You can change the gravy’s consistency to suit your preferences.
