Ingredients for banana pancakes

  • 3 bananas – medium to large (overripe or ripe)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour/maida (You can use whole wheat flour)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon oil

For serving (Optional)

  • Maple syrup
  • Banana slices

Instructions for banana pancakes

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Peel bananas and place them in a mixing bowl or pan. Mash the banana with a fork until almost smooth.
  3. Now, In a large bowl, beat the banana and egg together until blended.
  4. Stir the flour mixture into the banana mixture.
  5. Fold the batter gently with a rubber spatula until just blended; do not over-mix.
  6. the batter will be slightly lumpy.
  7. Set a griddle or non-stick pan over medium heat until hot.
  8. Spread a bit of oil on the pan. Instead of oil, you can also use ghee or butter.
  9. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake.
  10. Cook the pancake on low to medium-low heat.
  11. Cook until the pancakes are puffed on top and golden brown on the bottom, 2-3 minutes.
  12. When a few holes form on top of each pancake and the underside is golden brown, Flip the pancakes and cook until the bottom is golden brown and the top is puffed, 1 to 2 minutes more.
  13. Transfer the pancakes to a serving plate.
  14. Serve the pancakes while still hot with maple syrup, and sliced bananas if desired.

Freezing Instructions

The pancakes can be frozen for up to 3 months. After they are completely cooled, place a sheet of parchment or wax paper between each pancake and stack them together. Wrap the stack of pancakes tightly in aluminum foil or place it inside a heavy-duty freezer bag. To reheat, place them in a single layer on a baking sheet and cover them with foil. Bake in a 375°F oven for about 8 to 10 minutes, or until hot.

Serving Suggestions

Serve eggless banana pancakes hot or warm. You can eat them plain as-is, or enjoy them with maple syrup or other flavored syrups, honey, jams, caramel sauce, or melted peanut butter.
If using honey, then be sure to drizzle it on pancakes only once they have cooled down to room temperature as honey that becomes too hot becomes toxic.


  • If you do not have sugar, then replace it with jaggery, maple syrup, coconut sugar, brown sugar, palm sugar, or any sweetener of your choice. You can even skip the sweetener.
  • If you do not like cinnamon, include vanilla or cardamom powder, fennel seeds, or pumpkin spice.
  • You can replace water with lite coconut milk or part coconut milk and water to make the batter.
  • The banana pancake batter has a flowing medium-thick consistency.
  • The amount of sugar can be added as per the sweetness in the bananas. Add more or less as required.
