Missi Roti recipe can be prepared at home by using some easily available ingredients such as wheat flour, cumin powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, moong dal, garam masala, salt as per taste, and last but not least refined oil.
basically, the recipe is made with an equal amount of chickpea flour (Besan) and wheat flour. adding besan flour makes these missi roti soft compared to other rotis. on top of that, it is topped with finely chopped onion, ajwain, and Kasuri methi which makes it fully flavored.

Ingredients for Missi Roti
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup besan
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 to 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon ajwain (carom seeds)
- 2 teaspoons oil
- ¼ tsp turmeric
- 1 pinch asafoetida (hing)
- ½ tsp aamchur powder
- water (for kneading)
- oil or ghee (for roasting)
- Salt to taste
Instructions for Missi Roti
- Take the whole wheat flour, besan (gram flour) and ajwain (carom seeds) in a mixing bowl or a pan.
- Add finely chopped onion, chopped green chilli, asafoetida (hing), aamchur powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, 2 teaspoons oil, and salt.
- Mix all ingredients with your hand.
- Then add ½ cup water and Begin to mix and knead the dough.
- Add more water as required and knead to a smooth soft dough.
- Cover it with muslin cloth and keep aside at room temperature for 15 minutes.
- now pinch a medium-sized ball of dough, Roll to a circle of about 5 to 6 inches. Sprinkle some more flour if required while rolling. Roll to medium to medium-thick roti.
- further, roll it in a slightly thick circle like chapati or paratha.
- Heat a griddle or skillet (tawa) over medium flame.
- Place the roti on a hot tawa or skillet.
- cook until tiny bubbles starts to rise on the top surface.
- When the base is partially cooked, flip the roti using a spatula or tongs.
- Spread 1/2-teaspoon ghee on the surface using a spatula and cook it for a minute.
- When the second side is cooked and brown spots can be seen, then flip again. Spread some ½ to 1 teaspoon oil, or ghee on this side too.
- Repeat the flip and cook process (no need to spread ghee this time) for 1-2 times until golden brown spots appear evenly on both sides.
- Transfer it to a plate. Prepare the remaining rotis and cook them in the same manner

Serving Suggestions
Serve missi roti hot or warm with any vegetable dish, dal or with a pickle or curd or butter. It tastes so good that you can just have it plain also without any accompaniment. For best taste have them hot or warm.
Tips and Variations
- For kids reduce green chilies or skip them.
- Add 1/2-teaspoon chat masala powder and 2-tablespoons finely chopped coriander leaves step-1 for a different taste.
- Remember to finely chop the onions and green chilies. Otherwise, the paratha will tear while rolling.
- While roasting missi roti the amount of oil to be applied depends upon your preference.
- The tawa should be hot and not at a low temperature.
